Background Info

Pneumonia virus of mice (PVM) is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus of the family Paramyxoviridae, genus Pneumovirus. Transmission occurs via the respiratory tract through aerosols or direct exposure. Natural infections in mice generally do not produce symptoms. PVM could affect research involved with the respiratory tract, especially in athymic mice. Mice, rats, gerbils, and hamsters are natural hosts of this virus.
